This photograph shows the premises of Walter R. T. Budge - Wool Shop and Ladies and Gents Drapers at 39 Traill Street, Thurso. Note the old Gas Lamps above the windows !! I think this may be the proprietor Walter Budge with his wife and daughter. When she married she became a Mrs Mackenzie and lived in a large house round the corner in Sir John Square. On the left of the photo you can just make out a tobacconist sign which was known as The Corner Shop and was a favourite with all the children as they had a great selection of sweets as well as tobacco and cigarettes and all the paraphernalia associated with smoking. These premises are still owned by a direct descendant.
